Palm Beach Gardens

It began with an announcement. John D. MacArthur would be investing his time and money to develop 4,000 acres of grazing land for a new town, complete with homes for 55,000 people. This was March 29, 1959, and MacArthur was hoping to make a place for families to find the American dream.

By 1964, MacArthur and Palm Beach Gardens had come a long way when he heard that the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) was looking for a new home for their offices and courses. He invested over $2 million to bring the PGA to the area. They stayed just six years but hosted the Seniors and the World Cup before they left. The property was converted to the exceptional BallenIsles Country Club. The passion for golf in the community has never ebbed and is now home to a number of private and municipal courses.

Not into golf? Don’t worry. Palm Beach Gardens provides something for everyone. Parks & Recreation department‘s offerings include a bevy of indoor and outdoor activities. Any day of the week, you can find residents picnicking at area parks, participating in sports leagues, taking classes in various creative arts, skating or biking at the recently remodeled skate park and enjoying the water in many ways.

Along with the great outdoors, Palm Beach Gardens features impressive shopping venues. The Gardens Mall holds 1.4 million square feet of world-class shopping. Not far away you can experience Downtown at the Gardens with its hip boutiques, outstanding movie theater, trend-setting salons and top notch restaurants.

MacArthur’s goals are still alive today. People of all ages make Palm Beach Gardens their home.
